March 17, 2008

Dear Associates,

Thank you again for your participation in our Grey Nun Chapter 2008! During its February meeting, the Chapter Planning Committee (CPC) reviewed the responses from Grey Nun LAG groups and Associates to the materials sent out in December.

We have enclosed the following to share with you what we received:

The LAG groups continued to work on prioritizing issues Sisters’ considered most important for conversations and/or decisions during Chapter. Their responses identified a communal concern for charism, identity, and spirituality. We have suggested that these be the overarching theme of our Chapter meetings. When the elected Chapter Members gather in April we will ask them to engage in deep conversations on charism, identity and spirituality and their expression today. These will be the core conversations of our Chapter. Chapter Members will consider all other issues in light of these core conversations. Other issues that showed high priority for Chapter consideration included Legacy 21, the vows, including contemporary expressions, justice issues, including peace, care for the earth, and our prophetic role, lifestyle and the common good, the LAG structure, vocations, and both initial and ongoing formation.

We have asked the Sisters to have some conversations in their LAG groups on charism, identity and spirituality and to send responses back to the CPC that can be used to seed the conversations on these topics during Chapter. We invite you to have some conversations in your local Associate community gatherings on charism, identity and spirituality as they relate to the Associate relationship.

Because of the limited time remaining before Chapter, we are not asking

Associates to send any further responses to the CPC. Instead, we have invited the Associate Advisory Board to plan for Associates to do a panel presentation during the Chapter on the afternoon of April 21st. You will be hearing more about this from the Associate Advisory Board. In addition, we cordially invite you to join the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart at our Chapter ’08 meetings on Monday afternoon, April 21st and Tuesday, all day, April 22nd.

On the afternoon of the 21st, there will be an Associate panel addressing the Chapter members and guests. Incorporated into the day on April 22nd, Earth Day, we will have a presenter, Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, a panel of Grey Nuns who will focus on the corporate stands our congregation has taken on justice issues, and the dedication of a Peace Pole. Although we cannot offer you hospitality at our Motherhouse during Chapter because of the number of Sisters from other geographic areas whom we must accommodate, we will be happy to help you find hospitality with another Associate in this area, or at a nearby hotel. Look for more information to come from Janet Friedman and the Associate Advisory Board.

As usual, this entire mailing will be posted on the Chapter website (available at http://www.greynun.net/CHAPTER/CHAPTER.html [username: gnsha; password: daisy]) for future reference.

We thank you again for all the work and prayer that you are putting into this Chapter participation. We pray with you that the Spirit will continue to guide all of us throughout this Chapter process and we look forward to seeing those of you who will be able to join us on April 21st and 22nd.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Sincerely,
